Attack of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Mr. Kim is always tired. For no reason, he feels exhausted and suffers from aching muscles and a sore throat and has a slight cold. Even though he gets enough rest, it is always difficult for him to wake up in the morning and he feels unwell. Moreover, he is not motivated by anything and lives spiritlessly. His condition turns for the better during the daytime, and then worsens in the evening.

The person mentioned above shows the most common symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. Regardless of sex, everyone can catch this disease. Once you get this, you will be afflicted by fatigue for more than six months and various symptoms will follow afterwards. According to Job Korea (an online recruiting company) and HR Partner (a professional portal site)’s research on 1031 average desk workers, 63.2 percent of them had chronic diseases, and chronic fatigue accounted for 29.9 percent of them. Does this malady only affect those people? Have Soongsilians ever had experiences like this? “I am always worn out after school so I immediately lie on my bed and fall asleep right after I get home. Because I am always tired, it is hard to concentrate to talk with my friends, sometimes I even find it hard to join their conversations.

At night, I often can’t fall asleep and I easily get cold. I can’t identify any specific disease, but a serious problem is that I am always helpless. Also, I often have a swollen face in the morning and whenever I stay up all night, I have a bad headache.” According to a domestic report, 4.7 percent of people suffer from various diseases related to fatigue. What are the causes of chronic fatigue? In modern medical science, the main factors which prompt chronic fatigue are divided into 5 categories.

First, chronic fatigue results from stress. When stress builds up, the immune system of our body gets weakened, and we go through sexual declination. Also, stress negatively influences blood circulation, and thus people have indigestion and become languid.

Second, lack of exercise is another cause of chronic fatigue. In this mechanized and automatized life, many people don’t have a chance to do physical activity and it causes them to be more tired. As the computer occupies the
central position in our everyday life, hand or eye fatigue occurs as an occupational
disease. In this case, people easily gain weight and become inactive.

Excessive drinking, smoking, and caffeine could be another cause. Nicotine shrinks blood vessels, blocks oxygen supply and destroys vitamins in the body. Alcohol ruins villus in the small intestine and slows the absorption of minerals and nutrients in our body.

The forth course is insufficient sleep. As people age, they find it harder to fall into a deep sleep so their fatigue accumulates in their body. In addition, a person who snores cannot be supplied with enough oxygen and it leads them to feel pain on their shoulders and sleepy.

Lastly, nutritional imbalance is a final reason why people get chronic fatigue syndrome. Due to irregular eating patterns and westernized eating habits, many people suffer from lack of vitamins and minerals which can alleviate fatigue. Women who are on a diet are typically of this type.

Many people may not consider chronic fatigue to be a serious disease. Of course, this doesn’t threaten our life like cancer or AIDS. If we just leave this disease untouched, however, we will get into big trouble in no time. Having a chronic disease in your body means possessing a bomb in your pocket.

The symptoms of chronic fatigue are so vague and can vary widely from person to person, so it is hard to define it. One symptom is forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating. A person who has had trouble with Chronic Fatigue symptoms can never focus on what he is doing, and also can forget things like family members’ birthdays, homework, etc. Also, they are likely to have a sore throat.

Some people have tender lymph nodes in the neck or armpit. Also, muscle pain or multi-joint pain without swelling can occur. So, even though they didn’t play sports or do any activity, it is possible to have pain all over their body for no apparent reason. Moreover, they can have headaches of a new type, pattern, or severity

Also, chronic fatigue gives rise to complications. Physical ability declines and the body’s immune system can be disturbed. Constant slight sickness including sugar diabetes or allergies can appear with fatigue. Also, it reduces the function of natural killer(NK) cells which destroy cancer cells in the body.

Other symptoms of chronic fatigue can include mild fever, blurry vision, chills, night sweats, diarrhea, and fluctuations in appetite and weight. As can be seen, fatigue causes a lot of mental and physical damage.
What is the solution to overcoming chronic fatigue in our daily life? First, we need to make a habit of going to bed early and getting up early. Also, taking a warm bath is very helpful because the warm water improves the blood circulation in our internal organs, skins, and muscles.

In the morning, it is recommended to do some aerobic exercise such as walking, skipping, or jogging which can supply fresh oxygen to the body.

Also, drinking one glass of water before sleeping and before getting up is essential. Drinking water before sleeping keeps the blood from being concentrated, and water after getting up enhances the gastroenteric function and hastens the excretion of waste products.

Also, you shouldn’t skip breakfast or have a meal late at night. When having breakfast, the cerebrum works efficiently and people feel refreshed. After each meal, it is good to move around for 2 to 3 hours.

▲ Various fruit containing vitamin C are good for prevention of chronic fatigue

There are good foods for chronic fatigue that doctors recommend: Strawberries, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, young greens, carrots, green fish and shellfish, beans, beef liver, Chinese matrimony vine, ear shell, and vitamins. When you take these foods properly, you will need to worry less about your chronic fatigue.

Although society and technology are developing, more people have trouble maintaining their healths. Even young elementary students complain that they are
tired. Nothing is more valuable than health. Soongsilians, check yourself right now. If you feel tired for no reason, it is time to visit a hospital near your house.
