ST: What made you participate in the Miss Korea Competition?

MISS KOREA: My mother’s dream was to be Miss Korea when she was young. She used to say that I have to challenge myself when I have the opportunity. She has inspired me to try for Miss Korea, and my family encouraged me.

ST: You are majoring in Law right? I think law and Miss Korea don’t seem to be connected. How did people respond when you told them you were taking part in this competition?

MISS KOREA: I used to be asked this type of question. Many people wondered why a law student wanted to be Miss Korea. Do you know Miss Korea, Kum Na-Na who is in medical school? I think it is great for a women to take her own path while having the title of Miss Korea. I think she is one of the coolest women in Korea.

ST: Did you miss school to prepare for Miss Korea?

MISS KOREA: No, I didn’t. While attending school, I prepared for the competition starting last February. Because my beauty shop is in my hometown, Daegu, and my school is in Seoul, I was forced to commute almost every day.

ST: Why did you choose a beauty salon in Daegu? Why not in Seoul?

MISS KOREA: Since my house is in Andong, I should’ve found a beauty shop in Yongnam district. But, because I couldn’t imagine that I would make the final selection and only thought about the provincial competition, I chose Daegu instead .

ST: In the beauty shop, did you learn things like walking and speaking? Did you prepare any other things for the competition?

MISS KOREA: Yes, I learned those things in the beauty salon, but I didn’t particularly prepare anything else at first, because I never thought I was capable of becoming Miss Korea. After February, I finally started to really prepare for Miss Korea.

ST: Did you have any memorable experiences in a lodging house?

MISS KOREA: When I boarded together with other competitors for the local Miss
Korea Competition, I used to wash my roommates’ backs in a bathhouse and
have fun chatting with them. All twenty of us, Miss Korea candidates became
good friends. In the final together. We all 20 Miss Korea candidate became good
friends. In the final selection competition in Seoul, I remember that I ate a lot. Isn’t
it funny? Because I ate so much, many people around me, even staffs worried
about me.

ST: Did you exercise?

MISS KOREA: I don’t really usually exercise, but I worked out in a fitness center and did yoga as preparation for the competition. Also, I did stretching exercises every night.

ST: Can you talk about your plan for this year as Miss Korea?

MISS KOREA: I will do my best doing with all of my ‘Miss Korea’ obligations advertise our school to all over the place.

ST: What is your dream?

MISS KOREA: My dream is to be an announcer. For this, I want to acquire a lot of
experience in the mass media.

ST: What do you think about anti-Miss Korea?

MISS KOREA:I think Miss Korea has both positive and negative aspects. Because the Miss Korea Competition is not open to the public, and encourages a ‘lookism’, I think that’s why there are many people against the competition. I want to be an ordinary Miss Korea who can break the stereotype of Miss Korea.

ST: What do you consider the most important in life?

MISS KOREA: I would say a positive attitude. I read a book called ‘Your Best Life Now’ and it said that if you believe in yourself, you can succeed. In addition to a positive attitude, there is one more thing, and that is my family. I can’t live without my family.

ST: What has changed since you became the Miss Korea?

MISS KOREA: Ha ha, people just notice me and ask me if I am Miss Korea. One
time I was very shy and denied being Miss Korea. I’m still just a normal college
student who likes duk bok gi and sun dae.

ST: Could you tell me about your ideal partner?

MISS KOREA: I’m kind of tall so I want him to be tall, manly and a person who appreciates small things.

ST: If you went to a desert island and had to choose whether to go with MC? You Jae-seok or Jang Donggun, who would you go with?

MISS KOREA: Jang Donggun! Not only because of his appearance, but also because I would be the only girl he could fall in love with. ha ha.

ST: How was your childhood?

MISS KOREA: I thought of it when I was younger but I'm still satisfied with my
appearance.

ST: Have you ever consider getting plastic surgery?

MISS KOREA: I thought of it when I was younger, but I’m still satisfied with how I
look. I think the look I was born with suits me best. Even if someone is not pretty, I think the ‘natural look’ is most attactive.

ST: Do you plan to go to school this semester along with the Miss Korea activities? Do you have anything to say to Soongsilians?

MISS KOREA: Yes I plan to go to school. I am very proud of being a Soongsilian.
During the Miss Korea contest, the school supported me a lot. Thank you for that
and “Go Soongsil”!!
