The last few years have been crazy times of ‘learning English.’ This most widely used foreign language has become the first thing to achieve for university students. And it also gives a huge burden.

There are many ways to practice your English skill. How would you practice and improve your English skills? What suits best is the best way to the learner. However, a number of people with advanced English skill work as a translator (such as an interpreter). It doesn’t make a lot of money at first, though. The more experience is accumulated, the more you might get paid. Of course, it requires suitable competence and professionalism. It somewhat appears to be am attractive job to students. However, it’s also true that many of them don’t know how to start it. Let’s suppose if you were an aspirant for translator, and you’ve got an e-mail from a translation company. The mail explains how to start your career as a translator from the scratch. All you need to do is filling in the application and turning it in. Then how would you react?

I once got an e-mail from Ftrans.com and this was about becoming a first-draft translator. They will have the applicants to take some exams. If the applicant passes the exam, then he will be eligible to start as a beginner.
At first, it sounded good; that I could practice English and I can make some money on my own. So I wrote down the application and send it back to the company. Few days later, there was a call from the company. A woman who sounded about middle of thirties greeted and explained about the system of company. I have to take an exam that the company offers, and whether starting as a beginner depends on achieving the 3rd class of certification. If the applicant passes with 2nd class of certification then he could start as an expert, but since the test could be hard for the first trier, they just recommend that applicants should target for the 3rd class of certification.
It sounded very sweet at first. But then there was a shocking condition. To start as a beginner (or a wannabe,) applicants were required to pay 57 thousand won every month, for the whole first year. Then the total cost would be nearly 690 thousand won; which seems too expensive for not guaranteed job. I didn’t feel comfortable with the offer, so I had come up with an excuse that I have to talk to my parents first. Although my parents allow me to decide on my will, it was very

confusing and troubling to come up with a conclusion.
Then I went online to search more information. I have to admit that I was ignorant before, but there were tons of people who already have heard or ‘possibly’ working for Ftrans.com already. Some of them said that Ftrans had offered a great opportunity to experience about what translation is like. They would recommend people to take the test and cyber lecture that Ftrans offers. However, there were more people who would strongly keep you back. They insist that the test provided by Ftrans isn’t officially confirmed, so the certification can only be used in Ftrans system. Which means it won’t be a big help to the applicant’s career. They also said that the company didn’t let you pass so easily; even the worse, they don’t have objective and understandable standard to grade the score. Some of them accuse the company for not letting people pass the test without reasonable occasion after they receive money from students! There are several web communities for people who already work as a translator or who want to be, and Ftrans is the one that’s mentioned for the most unfair company to ‘employees.’ They even hire part-time workers and pretend that Ftrans helps in the career. How scary it is!

It would have been a common sense not to take some suspicious offer like this. Though, it could be easy to lose prudence if I were in hurry to get done something. But let’s take it easy and let’s not waste our precious time, money, and effort on wrong one! It can never be too careful.
