For information about recruitment, ST conducted a survey to one hundred of Soongsilian to know whether they have ever used Career Development Center or not. About this questionnaire, only 12% of Soonsilian answered that they have used the program before and the percentage of people who have never
used it was up to 88%. We can see that Soongsilians scarcely use the Career Development Center where they can get useful information before their recruitment. Most students answered that they even didn't know Career Development Cente is established in SSU. Contrary to their thinking, however, Career Development Cente is giving students valuable information related to recruitment and it can be helpful to many students if they use it effectively. Then, let's examine its service.
Firstly, it takes role of providing information of recruitment and consultation. The whole employment information accepted by SSU is entered into campus employment information in employment information system and employment information of enterprises is offered by enterprises itself. If an enterprise wants to be recommended students, it updates the nnouncement on its web site and chooses suitable students based on fair standard.
Secondly, Career Development Cente is operating regular liberal arts class concerned with a course. It is divided into subject for the first and second year students and subject for third and fourth year students, and you can attend a lecture after registering for a course in the beginning of new semester. It is in operation now under the name of "Campus life and career searching" and it gives much help from various curriculums such as team teaching.
It includes image making, strategy for interview and makeup. You can grasp a tendency or rospect about recruitment. It also helps students prepare recruitment from such as editing their resume and teaching how to write cover letter. However, using only these many more things on the foundation of it. Then let's observe what you can prepare from programs in SSU first. Next, ST will let you know some useful certificates.
Part1. Campus Program
1. Exchange Student Program
It is a program that you can attend a foreign university on an exchange scholarship. The term is usually six months but you can extend it of you want. You can choose whether to stay in dormitory in that university or to use home-stay. It is a good program because you can experience living abroad and foreign university without too much expensive cost compared with studying abroad. Those who don't finish more than one semester in SSU and who are in final semester can't apply it. And your GPA (grade point verage) must be more than 3.0 and you must meet obligation to have the grade of foreign language
examination.
2. Study and Training / Internship
SSU is supporting 2,000,000 won per one person as a scholarship for students to take training in a sistership school during the vacation.
English Training has been conducted from 2002 in University of Victoria in Canada and it is encouraging more and more students to apply another international programs.
Japanese Training is conducted in Meiji Gakuin University in Japan for 4 weeks. You can participate in it with only expenses for flight, food and living because the expense for taking language course and home to stay is given to students. You have to attend at least one Japanese lecture to apply it.
3. Soongsil Journalism Club
SSU started to manage Soongsil Journalism Club for the first time this year and we can expect that it will be effective for students dreaming of that fields. Male students who finish military service or who are exempted from military service for continuance of preparation can participate in it. GPA should be higher than 3.5 and people who passed the screening examination are able to enjoy privileges of receiving education from experts.
4. Curriculum for a licensed real estate agent
Center for Life-long Education in SSU furnishes education to help students who are preparing this exam. It lasts for 24 weeks and you can take a course with moderate cost.
Part 2. Certificate
Certificate isn't optional anymore and it is becoming essential. Actually, people who have some certificates are in advantageous position than those who don't have one. TOEIC is the most famaus lauguage certificate and people are attending to get it. However, there are many certificate in other fields. ST will give you information about several useful certificates.
Occupationally Classified Certificate
To work as the estate agents, they have to pass the exam of a licensed real estate agent which is under the city and province. In the 13th exam executed on October 20th, 2002, 187006 of people which is 11.7 percentages of examinees passed the exam. Two hundred sixty thousand people actually applied for the test, so there were the shortage of an examination paper. It is the type of license which is gaining popularity from the public. A licensed real estate agent is the professional job who offers the service to help run a real estate transaction on oiled wheel in the estate market.
