The 2011 SSU Job Fair was held on September 6-7 at the SSU Gymnasium in Jo Man-sik Memorial Hall. The event was hosted by SSU Career Development Center, was supervised by Elite Korea, and was sponsored by Elite Korea, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, AIA Life, Doosan Group, and Kia Motors. The more than 40 domestic and foreign companies that participated in the event attracted the attention of the students. In the job fair, recruitment and employment counseling/briefing was offered. In addition, Korean/English application form accomplishment, career, make-up and beauty, interview clothing, and image clinics were provided. The amenities venue offered a wide range of services, which many of the students were encouraged to participate in.
All in all, the students were satisfied with the job fair event. Kim Jong-yun (Finance, 08) said, “I thought that job fairs only provide information that everyone already knows anyway. From the perspective of the seniors, however, the job fair provided the students who graced the event with each participating company’s know-how in preparing for a job interview. It also explained how to fill in various job application forms in detail. When it’s time for me to find a job, I’m sure that this experience will help me gain success in my job applications.”
There were many offerings in the fair, but the application form accomplishment clinic attracted the attention of most students, perhaps because accomplishing the job application form is the first step in applying for a job. Jessica (Wall Street Institute English Academy), who was responsible for the clinic on accomplishing application forms in English, said, “A lot of students worry about their future, but they don’t take advantage of good opportunities like this job fair. The atmosphere here is very comfortable and relaxed, so don’t hesitate to obtain the valuable information that you need from here.”
While looking around at the job fair, one can see older students running around in confusion. According to most hiring professionals, it is too late for older students to come to a job fair like the one that had just been held at SSU. Therefore, it is best to go to career fairs as early as your first two years in college. ST thus suggests that the college freshmen and sophomores participate in the next job fair.
