A psychical cure using paintings recently emerged as a good way to comfort wounded hearts. A painting represents an artist who creates an artwork. Therefore, the atmosphere of a painting is decided by the painter’s heart.
To put it in another way, a painting influences the people looking at it. <On Paintings:Easing Oneself> was written for this purpose. The phrase “A psychological-cure essay” written on the book cover is so true of this book.
This book touches on a number of topics relevant for those who are in a depressing situation, including love, ego, and relationships. If you have grown tired of love or of relationships with other people, read this book and you will be comforted. In addition, there are a lot of references to paintings and artists, and the stories told in the book are really interesting. One of the paintings mentioned in the book, the most impressive artwork for me, is Picasso’s <<Guernica>>. It shows Picasso at his best. In the painting, he captured the horrors of the bombing of the Basque town of Guernicaduring the Spanish Civil War, which killed many innocent people. There is a little-known story behind the bombing, involving Dora and Mari. Picasso and Mari were in love with each other, but Picasso was stirred by the beautiful and dignified Dora. Dora turned violent because she found that Picasso cannot become her lover. Picasso, inspired by Dora’s rage, drew a screaming woman on the right of the picture. I enjoy appreciating excellent artworks in art galleries because such galleries have a special atmosphere. Once a year, I go to Edgar Degas’s exhibition. Although the paintings of Edgar Degas are not as grand as Andy Warhol’s or as colorful as Chagall’s, I am comforted by his paintings. ST suggests that you go to an art museum this weekend!
