▲ The poster of Indian movies
Unlike many Hollywood movies, Indian movies give their viewers a lot of insights. Children of Heaven makes its viewers think about the poverty existing in the society, My Name is Khan about racial discrimination, and Three Idiots about education issues. Another feature of Indian movies is the actors’ colorful costumes and the songs sung by the actors here and there throughout the movies. These features contribute to the remarkable growth of Bollywood, which is proceeding at a speed that’s alarming Hollywood.

ST wants to introduce to the Soongsilians the Indian movie titled Stanley’s Tiffin Box. This movie will make us hungry and will please our eyes because of the delicious foods that come up in movie.

People in our generation from the age of the twenty often bring a lunchbox to school not because we want very much to have our lunch in school but because the lunchbox is in many cases seen as a symbol of mother’s devotion. Moreover, it thrills us to think about the contents of our lunchbox, and the smell of the delicious food from our lunchbox pleases us immensely. The main character of the movie Stanley’s Tiffin Box, Stanley, is deprived of this precious experience and pleasure by his poverty. He has no parents, and his uncle, who raised him, considers him a thorn in his side. Even though he is in a difficult situation, he is a model student. He is also a gifted storyteller and is thus very popular among his classmates.Despite his popularity, though, Stanley is alone at lunch time because he has no lunchbox of his own. Knowing this, his friends suggest to him that they eat the food from their lunchboxes together. Stanley’s happiness does not last long, though. His gluttonous teacher, Berman, becomes jealous of him because he can share the food from the other children’s lunchboxes while Berman cannot. Berman becomes so angry at Stanley that he plays a prank on him. He tells Stanley that if he cannot bring his own lunchbox to school, he will not be allowed to attend school. Stanley does not go to school for several days because he does not have a lunchbox. His friends help Stanley go back to school, and Berman is yanked out of the school.

This movie is full of meaning from start to end. It starts with cute cartoons. The story of the cartoons shows the basic outline of the movie, helping the audience understand the movie.

The most important part of the movie, and what the director is trying to say in the movie, unfolds ten minutes before the movie ends. In summarizing the movie, ST first describes Stanley’s environment. The real reason that Stanley cannot bring his own lunchbox to school is revealed at the end. After school, he has to work in his uncle’s store, but if he arrives home late, he is beaten by his uncle. These scenes show up when the movie is about to end. The audience is shocked by this reality. At the end of the movie, the following lines appear on the screen: “Over 12 million Stanleys work as child laborers in India. A far greater number are exploited in the guise of family ties.”

Stanley’s Tiffin Box reveals disturbing facts about the Indian society through a children’s lunchbox story. ST recommends that the Soongsilians see this uncomfortable but warm and tasty Indian movie.
