ST visited a jazz club where people enjoy listening to live jazz Club Evans near Hongik University. Improvisation is one of the distinguishing features of jazz. While listening to jazz music at Club Evans, ST found that such music genre and the people’s passion for it crammed the whole club. The musicians interacted with the audience and looked very excited. Then they expressed their feelings through impromptu performances. Club Evans is one of the best places to experience jazz. It’s easy to go to Club Evans from Hongik Univ. Take the crosswalk on the left side of the road from the main gate of Hongik Univ. Turn right and go straight. Walk for 5-10 minutes until you see a 7-Eleven convenience store. Club Evans is on the 2nd floor of the 7-Eleven building. The inside of the club is not spacious, but it’s optimized for live jazz performances. You can see the stage as soon as you open the club door. Various kinds of musical instruments are scattered under yellow lights. You may wonder if the musician can play because the stage is filled with instruments. People appreciate the real worth of Club Evans, however, when the performance begins. The club is pretty dark. All the lights are out, except those on the stage. The soft glow of the candlelight on each table gives the place a cozy atmosphere. Club Evans charges an admission fee, and you have to pay the drinks separately. The musician’s fee has to be paid in cash, but you can pay the drinks either in cash or using your credit card. The admission fee is between 8,000 and 10,000 won, and the beverage fee ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 won. If you don’t order other menu items, your total bill will be about 20,000 won. It’s a little expensive for students to spend time in the small live club, but once you’ve paid and listen to jazz music, you won’t regret it.
