SSU reached 60th anniversary of reconstruction in seoul and launched forth for development of SSU taking this year as the first year of the third development. SSU was founded in Pyeongyang 1897 in the name of SSU school and grown up as the first higher education academy and modern university by William Baird missionary. But SSU school closed down for resist to Japanese Empire’s suppression and shinto worship coercion. And after liberation, it was reconstructed on Seoul 1954 as SSU after 16 years from closing. In 1971 the name SSU was substituted by Soongjeon for combining with Daejeon university, and it was promoted to university. but in 1987, on 90th anniversary, Soongjeon returned to SSU. And in 1997, SSU reached 100th anniversary and this year, SSU reached 60th anniversary of reconstruction in Seoul. at 2017, SSU will reach 120th anniversary of foundation of university. May 12 Monday, 60th anniversary celebration of reconstruction in seoul at Rev. Han Kyungchik Memorial Hall. Faculty, staff, students, and many external personnels participated at the celebration. The celebration began with pray of Kim Jin-gyeong, the president of Pyongyang University of science and technology. In succession many honored guests read the congratulatory address, and Westminster choir of SSU singed for the celebration. Especially on this celebration, three visions and goals was suggested for the third principles of university, future-oriented establishment of SSU through reconciliation with past, foster creative leadership for period of unification, and phase build-up as the hub of the universe. On this celebration, three men received honorary doctorate as example of vision achievement of university. first, about reconciliation with past, Nokana Hiromu, who acknowledge mistakes of Japan empire and empathize with SSU's independence, received honorary doctorate. second, about SSU's status, Park Jun-gu, who steadily took part in alumni association and gave university development fund, received honorary doctorate. third, about fostering creative leadership, Shin Dae-yong, who is president of DSA and working on USA, received honorary doctorate as a wish of reunification of North and South Korea. interview he said “SSU achieved substantial reults during 41 years after opening in Pyeongyang. But SSU closed to reject shrine worship in 1938. And after division SSU was rebuilted in Seoul. There was many problem because it was ‘refuge college’, But there are many meanings because it never used expenient in growth during 60 years.” Also he said “About Pyeongyang SSU rebuilting, We are searching for ways of growth of North Korea young man education. and SSU will lead in South-North unification and United Korea”.
