When the freshmen walk around the SSU campus, they are bound to wonder about one thing. What places in the campus will help them get used to the university? There are many places in the SSU campus that are quite unknown to many people. In this section, ST will introduce three places that the freshmen may want to visit: the Central Library, the Student Union Building, and the Reverend Han Kyung-Chik Hall.
The first place is the Central Library.
There is a media room on the fifth floor of this library. You can choose a DVD, borrow it, and watch it there. The monitors have just been changed (during the winter vacation). Don’t forget to bring your own identification card, though, as you have to present it to be able to borrow and watch a DVD. If you want to rest while studying at the Central Library, at the top of the library is a roof garden with some benches, but there are also smokers there. From there, you can see the beautiful landscape of the middle garden of Soongsil University.
The second place is the Student Union Building.
First, on the fifth floor at the Student Union Building is the Counseling Center (Room No. 502). It offers a number of programs during the semester and during the vacation months, including group counseling and art counseling. They also provide some free-of-charge tests that are useful for knowing yourself, such as MBTI (a personality test de\-signed to help a person identify some of his or her signifi\-cant personal preferences) and HOLLAND (a personality test that focuses on one’s career and vocational choice). If you have any problem, feel free to go there for counseling.
Second, next to the Counseling Center is the Career Management Center (Room No. 503). It offers career and employment counseling. In your first year in the university, you have to identify what you want to do in the future, and it is natural to experience agony while you’re doing this. The Career Management Center is a good place to go if you are worried about your future. The staff will give you some helpful tips.
Third, on the second floor of the Student Union Build\-ing is a classical music room (Room No. 224). Basically, this place is for the Book Café Club and Classics Club members, but it is also open to other Soongsilians from 12 to 6 p.m. every day, except during the exam period. When you go there, you will hear classical music, and you can borrow some books or comics when you stop by at the Book Café Club. Borrowing, however, is allowed only in this hall.
Fourth, if you’re a woman, there’s a place especially for you. Room No. 216 is a room exclusively for women. You can come by here at any time. There are some sofas, tables, and chairs, and inside the room is another room for sleeping, with three bunk beds. You can sleep there when you’re tired.
The third place is the Reverend Han Kyung-Chik Hall.
If you’re a Christian, there’s a place where you can pray to God. On the second floor of the Reverend Han- Chik Hall, there is an oratory called “The Spring of Bless\-ing.” This room can accommodate 40 people at a time. You can come by and pray if you’re a Soongsilian. There’s a big cross on the wall, and below the big cross is a plat\-form. The room is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
