Experiencing a New Life in Korea

ST interviewed exchange students from Germany. ST introduces their lives in Germany and Korea........Ed

ST had an interview two students from Germany.

ST: Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Bastian: My name is Bastian Schneck. I am from Germany, Bavaria. It’s a small city between Nuremberg and Augsburg. I am majoring in Business administration specialized in marketing and communication.

ST: What was your impression on Korea and why did you choose to come here?

Bastian: I’ve had an impression of Korea as a country which developed really fast in a short period of time. I came here because I was really curious about Asia itself and especially about Korea. Also I wanted to make a lot of new experiences in a country completely different from home.

ST: How’s your school life different from Germany?

Bastian: Fabian and I are doing dual studying where we working and studying at the same time. We are 3 months in the university and 3months in the company. We are employed in the company. Because we are dual studying, for us almost everything is fixed in Germany. We have fixed courses from 9 AM to 5 PM. However, we have less exams and homework. We have some projects but not much homework in school sense. We usually have one big final exam.

ST: What is the best place in Korea that you have visited?

Bastian: Seoul at all, I had watched a firework and an overview of Han River and it was really fascinating. Also, when I was traveling in Juju Island, sitting on the beach and seeing the waves was really beautiful. I was overwhelmed by it. If you can import and Korean food to Germany, what would you import? Bastian: Definitely soju (haha). Also Korean Barbeque and Tteokbokki

ST: Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Fabian: My name is Fabian-Alexander Triebe. I am also from Germany but from a city called Frankfurt am Main. My major is business administration focused on banking.

ST: What was your impression on Korea and why did you choose to come here?

Fabian: For me Korea was an emerging country. I have not heard as much as about Korea compared to the surrounding countries but have heard of some big Korean brands. I had the choice to study in a European country and Korea. However, I wanted to experience something completely new and exchange cultures. Also, since I am considering of doing my master’s degree in Asia and actually work in Asian countries, I’ve decided to come to SSU as an exchange student.

ST: What is the best place in Korea that you have visited?

Fabian: My favorite place was Gwangalli beach in Busan. It was a beautiful beach in the middle of the city. Also, Hongdae. I enjoyed the crowded and loud streets there.

ST: Do you watch any Korean TV shows or listen to K-pop?

Fabian: Well since we are in Korea and everywhere here k-pop is surrounding us, it is hard to keep away from it. I kind of got used to listening to K-pop and now I enjoy it. I’ve watched Train to Busan before. Also my friends in Germany told me that they had watched Train to Busan at home. I was really surprised. I think now K-pop culture is much appreciated in our country too.

ST: How would you introduce Korea to your friend?

Fabian: Hankukin Joah (I love Koreans). Also, Korea is an underrated place and everyone should experience it.
