At the beginning of each year, Hollywood receives attention from movie fans all over the world. It is because the Academy
Awards, the world’s largest film festival, is hold. The Academy Awards is also known as the Oscars. It awards 24 categories,
including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress for movies that were screened in the U.S in the previous year.
Starting from 1929, this year is the 91st anniversary of the Academy Awards. The awards have been held at the Dolby
Theater in Hollywood. The winners are chosen by the votes of the Academy members, which include directors, filmmakers,
and actors who are directly involved in Hollywood’s filmmaking. That is why the Academy Awards were able to become the
world’s most prestigious film festival.
Although the Academy Awards have always received the attention of the whole
world, the 88th Academy Awards in 2016 were popular than ever. It is because Leonardo
DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor. Leonardo DiCaprio, also well known in Korea
for the movie Titanic and Great Gatsby , has won numerous awards at various film
festivals. However, he had no connection with the Oscars. He had been nominated for
the Best Actor four times, but he never won one. Furthermore, at the 88th Academy
Awards, the competition was intense because he competed with excellent actors like
Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender, and Eddie Redmayne. However, Leonardo DiCaprio
finally won the best actor award for the movie Revenant.
An actor or director who won the awards at the ceremony will receive an Oscar trophy. From
the 1st ceremony to the 90th ceremony, it is estimated that nearly 3,000 of Oscar trophies have
been awarded. The trophy is in the shape of a man standing on five film reels while holding a
long knife with both hands. The film reel is a tool to wrap and store the film. The five film reels
represent five categories—actors, directors, production, technology, and script—which were the
original award categories. There is an interesting story about the trophy. When a piece of gold
came off the trophy, the Academy made a trophy that never loses its gold plating by using the
technology of NASA`s space telescope. This Oscar trophy had been controversial at lower cost than people thought. However,
the trophy that awarded to best actors, actress, and directors will be the priceless noble prize.
The ceremony of 2019 was held in February 24. There were also some notable things at this Academy Awards. Unlike
before, some celebrities took turns in hosting the ceremony without an official host. The Academy Awards this year also ended
with the love and support of many movie fans. Why don`t we participate in the next Academy Awards?
