The high school credit system is a system in which various entities—schools, education offices, local governments, and universities—work together to operate customized education for students. If the high school credit system is introduced, students will be able to select and complete the requirements of different subjects according to their career path, and if their cumulative credits reach the standard, they will be recognized for graduation. It will be fully implemented in all high schools in 2025 after a trial run.
The high school credit system has already been implemented as ‘Subject Choice System in Dobong-gu, Seoul, since 2010. On March 19, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has announced that it would select the Gangseo-Yangcheon and Dongjak-Gwanak area, including SSU, as the leading district for the high school credit system, and then lay the foundation for the full implementation of the high school credit system in 2025. SSU is operating ‘Creative Convergence Reading and Discussion Job Training for Teachers’ Competency Enhancement’ and ‘Professional Training for Teaching and Learning Connected to the Graduate School of Education.’ It has also signed a MOU(Memorandum Of Understanding) with the Korea School Robot Education Promotion Agency to expand the number of computer rooms at Dang-gok High School located in Gwanak-gu to two, and strengthen SW (Software) education.
The high school credit system is an innovation plan for high school education. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education believes the system will have three expected effects: improvement of the quality of high school education, diversity of education, and improvement of the college entrance system.
