SSU was designated as the ‘best university’ in the “2020 Evaluation of Education Welfare Support for Disabled College Students,” as released by the National Institute of Special Education on February 9. A total of 423 campuses from 343 universities participated in the evaluation, with 39 campuses getting the highest rating, accounting for 9.2 percent. Other than SSU, campuses selected for the best universities include Seoul National University (Kwanak Campus) and Chung-Ang University (Seoul Campus).
The evaluation was conducted through self-evaluation reports on three areas: selection of freshmen (10%), teaching and learning (50%), and facilities (40%). SSU exceeded the average (70.9 points) with a total of 93.06 points, providing direct assistance like a dormitory that is equipped with rooms for the handicapped, prioritizing students with disabilities and with difficulties registering for online classes, and providing wheelchair-only height adjustment desks. “We believe that we have done our best to provide customized support for handicapped students by dividing them into general education support and professional education support according to the founding ideology of the SSU, ‘Service for the world in truth’, and we will make an effort to care for them continuously,” stated Ko Seung-won, head of the student support center at SSU.
