Are you joining many clubs at SSU? If your fun club activities are on centerstage, there is definitely a backstory behind them! ST interviewed the main character, the association, in detail on its special interests and festivals. Let’s take a look! ..........................Ed

Many Soongsilians have high expectations for college clubs. Therefore, they often actively participate in club activities. However, for the past two years, it has been difficult for club activities to be actively carried out due to COVID-19 restrictions. Today, despite COVID-19, Soongsilians’ interest in joining a club is starting to rise again as they enter the stage of daily recovery. Then, who is striving for the continuous operation and lively activities of many clubs in the school? There is an autonomous student organization that hosts club activities. It’s a club union. ST interviewed Lee Ji-hun (Software, ’18), president of EunhaSSU under the 39th Club Federation, to inform about the club union.

Q1. ST: Please introduce the club union, EunhaSSU.

Lee: Hello, I’m part of EunhaSSU, the 39th club union of SSU. The Club Union is an autonomous student organization that provides administrative support for 72 central clubs in SSU, maintains a system for fair operation, and supports different activities. In particular, we launched our organization with the aim of regenerating club activities that had been left stagnant due to the peculiarity of the situation called the COVID-19 pandemic. The slogan, “We, where clubs gather and become one,” contains the desire for a united Soongsil in the club union created by clubs, just as the stars in the night sky gather and become beautiful galaxies.

Q2. ST: The practice of meeting face-to-face has been allowed, and the General Student Association and the club union have jointly hosted SSU:torial, the first offiine festival in three years. So, how is this different from the last festival?

Lee: As COVID-19 reduced many face-to-face activities, many events were put on hold. Therefore, we had no choice but to hold the festival online last time. Compared to the last online festival, I think it will be livelier. Through the weekly booth and the main stage, it was developed into a festival where all members of the SSU club come together and plan the one-heart festival of SSU.

Q3. ST: What events have you hosted so far?

Lee: The club fair was held as a planned event of the 39th club union. The offline event was not held for two years due to COVID-19, and this club fair was also reduced. But when the face-to-face event was announced, club introduction papers and promotional videos were disseminated. After the start of the term of the club union, we conducted a surprise inspection of cases on violations of quarantine rules. It was a measure for safer club activities, and the number of cases caught decreased significantly due to the cooperation of many Soongsilians with the quarantine rules.

Q4. ST: What is special about the SSU Club union?

Lee: After investigating other university club unions at the beginning of the term of the president, SSU seems to be in the top ranks as a university that fully supports the club at the school headquarters and the club union. In the meantime, due to COVID-19, many schools have closed the student center and have been unable to use the club room for two years, so we are supporting the various categories of activities. Therefore, I think the club shines as the foundation for SSU Central Club to keep working hard.

Q5. ST: What is the value that the Club union is seeking?

Lee: The Club union is an autonomous student organization that maintains a system in which 72 SSU Central Clubs can be operated fairly. Therefore, I can say that the keyword of the Club union’s pursuit of value is fair support.

Q6. ST: What do you want to say to the Soongsilians?

Lee: I think the highlight of college life are the clubs. About a quarter of Soongsilians are participating in club activities. The Club union will try to support the clubs generously, constantly, and fairly. I recommend you to draw a page of your memories at SSU as a club. Please pay plenty of attention and support to the Club union.

The Club union is constantly striving to achieve a meaningful club life for all Soongsilians. As the first offline festival in three years, SSU:torial, will be held, and the Club union is working hard to make it successful. Why don’t you participate in the activities of the Club union, and make meaningful memories at the club?
