Bucheon City held the Bucheon International Animation Festiva (BIFF) 2022 at the Korea Manhwa Museum, CGV Bucheon, Hyundai Department Jungdong Store, and Fantastic Cube for a total of five days, from October 21 to October 25 this year. The BIAF2022 is a film festival designed to spread the charm of animation, and centers on international competition. As an international film festival officially designated by the Academy, it is an authoritative film festival that spreads the charm of the animation genre, and plays a central role in the art and industry of animation.
The opening film of the BIAF2022 was Little Nicholas, which was co-directed by Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre. They took the top prize for Little Nicholas at the annual Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It was reborn as a cartoon animation that was completed in 1959 when René Gosini‘s writings and Jean-Jacques Sempe’s paintings met. At the BIAF2022, the first public works in Korea, the winners of the International Film Festival, and topical works were screened. Among these outstanding works, excellent international competition works were selected. The Grand Prizes of BIAF2022 went to No Dogs or Italians
Allowed (Feature Film) and The Debutante (Short Film). The Jury Prizes went to Persona (Graduation Film), Funny Birds (TV & Commissioned Film), From the Main Square (VR),
and House of Existence (Korean Short Film).
In addition to the screening of the works, several events were held. On October 22, “Ani-Rock in Bucheon” was shown at the screening hall of the Korea Manhwa Museum. Woo Won-jae, Stella Jang, Gsoul, and Peppertones performed. Moreover, the “4th BIAF e-sports,” an e-sports culture
festival that is being held to create a healthy game culture, raises awareness of the viewing and game culture, and there was the “11-second Animation Film Festival,” an animation film festival event that is easily accessible to adult and youth amateur participants!
Started in 1999 and its 24th anniversary this year, the BIAF2022 has introduced richer programs and screenings. Since it is an annual festival, everyone who likes animation or wants to see international animation screenings is encouraged to participate in the event.
