1.ST: Please say hello to Soongsilians and freshmen.
Yong Rebekah and Lee Sang-mi : Nice to meet you. We'll meet you in March and April. We are going to visit class rooms to meet you and say hello.
2.ST: Why did you decide to be in the student’s association election?
Yong Rebekah and Lee Sang-mi(Yong, Lee) : We work for a students’ association. And we felt we want to do more for Soongsilians and hope to go into service for SSU.
3.ST: What is the most important public promise?
Yong, Lee : Tuition fees. We met SSU’s person five times. However, It was no good because SSU announced raised tuition fees without any notion. Also, we chose what SSU committee will operate democratically to reflect student opinion. Lastly, We have made an effort for education problems, for example, improving the educational environment and space and arrangement
4.ST: Isn’t it hard to do this work as women?
Yong, Lee : We are fine. No problem.
5.ST: Do you have a counterplan for tuition fees?
Yong, Lee : The Tuition fees committee is appropriate on the basis of a statement of accounts.
We demanded tuition fees data. However, SSU presents tuition fees without reliable sources. We’ll report the event to students in March and April.
The other universities don’t have a negotiation processes. This point is good but, the unreliable process is the problem.
6.ST: You had pledged that SSU students be included in Beijing Olympic cheers. How is it going?
Yong, Lee : It is not clear since the Lee Myung-bak administration has come. However, we are willing to put this pledge forward.
7.ST: President Lee Myung-bak accepted Park Geun-hye’s pledge. Do you have any pledges you would like to accept from Talk Play You, opponent candidates?
Yong, Lee : Actually there were a lot of things in common. Almost of them were same.
8.ST: Among your various promises, the system which allow students to give up their credit partially and the Soongsil Map through the SSU homepage were criticized. What do you think about that?
Yong, Lee : The system of credit relinquishment will be discussed more from this March to April. The problem of homepage was stretched too far. I just meant that I would make a
new homepage, but it was wrongly understood by people. I won’t change the total system of the school homepage.
9.ST: SSU was not be selected to have a law school.
Yong, Lee : I visited the Ministry of Education twice with the student president of the law department. It is open to question
that this selection meets the purpose of law reform. The whole process of selecting school was not right. I’m looking forward to working on this in association with the Law department.
10.ST: Recently, many people have lost interest in students’ association.
Yong, Lee : I think SSU students have to find a new meaning in a students’ association. I mean they need to change their view. I can’t deny that now we have been already reduced to an organization which just promotes school field trips or special events. But, I am going to work hard to change this. From the students’ association of each department to the students’ association, we all should help Soongsilians meet their needs and realize their ideal. Moreover, regarding group activities, I would like to let Soongsilian have fun and valuable experience in School. I think we can easily arouse their interest in a students’ associations through these activities.
11.ST: You guys are taking different majors. What made you run together in the last election?
Yong, Lee : We actually met each other last year. The present president of the students’ association was a student president of the college of social science and the vice president was a chief of the college of humanities. So, we got a chance to meet and help
each other.
12.ST: Do you have any vision or goal in the future after graduating?
Lee : In fact, my parents are anxious about my working. Personally, I want to point out (let people know) that getting a job has some social problems. Also, I am planning public
performances.
13.ST: What was the difficulty in your activities?
Yong, Lee : People usually have negative thought about a students’ association, so they used to say that we might embezzle public money. I consider it unfair because we work hard for
school and students even until night. However, I will continue to make efforts, thinking of it as an unsettled question. Sometimes, some students encourage us and it makes us work harder.
14.ST: How do you want to be remembered?
Yong, Lee : I want people remember me as a president of students who met a huge
number of students in person and worked eagerly in the street on campus. I hope to meet many students and to students to remember our struggle from it.
15.ST: What is needed for SSU to be more developed?
Yong, Lee : I think all members of SSU should have pride toward SSU. It is important since we may feel shrunk if not. SSU has a long history and tradition so I also have pride about SSU. We have lots of things to be proud of, such as the soccer team. The problem is we need to make more people informed about SSU. I hope students feel pride about our school.
