How did you spend your long winter? Some people spend the whole day tediously doing nothing, and others live busily doing this and that. Here are some cultural performances and exhibitions that could flourish your life.....................................................Ed.

It's Jazzy!

The first performance is a Jazz performance named <JAZZ in the CITY>. This performance is presented in the evening. Everyday there are different musicians who are famous both at home and abroad and they please the audience’s ears with fantastic jazz play. <JAZZ in the CITY> is a long run performance that started in April, 2007 in KT ArtHall located near Kwanghwamun. One of the biggest features is that the

admission fee is only 1,000 won. Also, the total admission fee is used in charitable work to provide

hearing-aids for the teenagers in low income groups, so you not only enjoy the fantastic jazz performance but also help the needy neighbors.

The atmosphere of this jazz concert is quite unrestricted. You can comfortably stretch your legs out and lean back on the cushions in the back seat. Likewise, there is a cafe next to the stage and you can freely get something to eat even in the middle of the performance. In the cafe, they sell many kinds of coffee and ice cream, and the earnings are used just like the admission fee.

When the reporters went there, a jazz group ‘Namuranda’ performed. There was an unexpectedly large audience so the seats were full, and there were also many children who came with their parents. The sweet melody of violin, jazz piano, acoustic guitar, and drums, were all in harmony and it was so good to hear. What made the reporters feel more calm were the comfortable seat and warm coffee.

KT ArtHall is right in front of exit 2 of Kwanghwamun station, line No. 5. You can buy the ticket on the hall lobby, so you don’t have to book the ticket in advance. It runs everyday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.ktarthall.com.

Visual Attraction!

The next is a design exhibition. Do you know Verner Panton? Maybe you don’t know his name, but if you see his masterpiece, you would say ‘yes’. He is a Danish furniture designer representing the

20th century. He is famous for his red ‘heart con-chair’. This chair is the same chair from the Korean talk show ‘The Gab of Beautiful Women’, so it’s visually well known to many people.

Verner Panton attracted international attention as an independent architect and designer in the 1950s. On the show you can see the creative furniture he designed in his lifetime. His furniture is very colorful and has loud colors. The harmony of illuminations and furniture is really sensible. You could be remind of pop art if you keep seeing his works because of the vivid color.

‘Verner Panton An Exhibition of Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany’ runs from Dec. 9 to March 2, Monday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission fee for adults is 8,000 won and 4,000 won for children. Let’s Enjoy the Dance Time

Are you sick and tired of staying home this cold winter? ST is going to introduce a performance which will turn on the heat. ‘Ballerina Who Loves Bboyz Season1’ performed by ‘Gorilla Crew’Able Crew & Brooklyn Monkeys), the top-runner of non-verbal performance, has had remarkable successes in various World Bboy(an extreme dance performance) contests. It harmonizes ballet with B-boy dance, even though they seem illmatched. People ranging from children to old men were there, besides the young people who make up the majority of audiences. This hits performance debuted in 2005 and transcends sex and age and has maintained popularity through many encores and provincial tours. The show which is composed of four acts tells the story about love between a purehearted, graceful ballerina girl and a unaffected B-boy,  friendships of B-boys and their passion for dance. The title tells you that what kind of dance will be shown. Not only b-boy and ballet, but you also get many other kinds of dances, such as popin, girl’s hiphop and breakdancing. Also a variety of music delights your ears. For example, there are classical music, hip-hop music, korean traditional music and popsongs. The stage where the splendid dance battle takes place is close to seats so audience can feel more lively and energetic. Unlike other performances, photography and a telephone call are allowed during the performance. So you can enjoy the show in an atmosphere of freedom. If you stand up, give cheers and clap for player’s dynamic acting, you can share their explosive passion and energy. After having a fun time in brilliant lights and exciting music, you may feel that time flew. (1 hour and 30 minutes). The performance is held at Popcon Hall, 10th Floor, Shopping Mall ‘Mesa’ located in Namdaemun, Seoul. In order to get to ‘Mesa Popcon Hall’ go to Hoehyeon Station, line No. 4, exit 7. Shows are at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. During the

weekends the shows are staged at 3 and 6 p.m. There are no shows on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tickets cost from 25,000 won to 45,000 won. A 20 percent discount is offered to university students. They are

During their long winter vacation, university students used to suffer from ‘vacation Syndrome’ and their numbers have been increasing. It is the atmosphere that students lead an intemperate life or waste time meaniglessly without plans. A survey of 400 university students by ‘Arbietcheonguk’ found that 91% of

students experience this syndrome. If you are troubled with ‘vacation Syndrome’ and it continues till a new term, you will spoil your beginning plans. Enjoying cultural life helps students who were exhausted preparing for a job, studying English or working a part time job. Also, it refreshes lazy students and recovers their spoiled bio-rhythms.
