 These days, the importance of leadership has been a hot potato. People want to be a leader and control others with power. Students compete severely to win the election for a student president like adults. Many books related to leadership are on sale in bookstore and people go deep into study of it. Even parents of elementary students are eager to make these little boys and girls a leader, not a follower. However, it seems clear that not everybody can be real leaders, because a variety of attitudes and personalities are necessary. This time, I wrote about several qualities that good leaders have to possess.


  First, I think a leader must be effective communicators. To function properly, a leader must communicate with his or her followers. Communications help the group be able to achieve their goal with minimum mistakes. Leaders have to spend time with followers not to waste time in repeating instructions and correcting mistakes. Also, communications create a sweet atmosphere in a group and allow them to cooperate easily.


  Second, a leader needs to learn how to motivate people. I think emotion is simply a factor which can decide the efficiency of work production. Followers can increase production when they feel like they are doing a job. Accordingly, a good leader has to become both intrinsic motivators and extrinsic motivators. Excellent Leaders not only emotionally control their workers, but also use material reward to encourage them.

  A leader should praise followers when they do their best. Many leaders who ignore the best efforts of their followers will soon find that their workers no longer want to do give a best shot. Some bosses are only interested in boasting of themselves and never admit their workers. In this situation, I am sure that no body will work hard to make a profit and it will be hard to maintain their relationship. The managers should learn to acknowledge their workers and give many compliments to them when they are deserved.


  Forth, leader has to accept new ideas and opinions from their followers. Leader is not the person who threatens other people. Good leaders have to make sure that the success of their tasks depends on creativity of his or her followers. Two heads are better than one. A leader need to accept other people’s view and deal with matters flexibly. I think that is the way to yield desirable results.


  
  Lastly, a good leader must have quality to make decisions. I think this is the most important feature leaders should posses. Literally, a leader is a leader. The followers can help leaders make decisions, but the leader is the one who finally decide. They must take full responsibility and move forward to it whether its decision is good or bad. Sometimes, they will be in situation they have split seconds to make very important decisions. To prepare for this situation and make a right decision, they have to develop their insight and knowledge by reading

various books, maintaining relationship with many people, and meeting various media.


  I suggested the personalities and qualifications that I think a good leader should bear. I’m not talking that this is all about a leader, but I’m sure the most successful leaders are showing these features. An American famous baseball star, Christy Mathewson said, “You can learn a little from victory; you can learn everything from defeat.” In life, maybe we will face difficulties and fail sometimes as a leader. Maybe, the leader’s life is a lot harder than a follower’s. I, however, guarantee you that standard of leaders’ life are way higher than a follower’s. Don’t worry about failure too much, because you will learn more from it and can be mature. The difference of armature and pro is slight. Do you want to be a leader or a follower? It is all up to you.
