A great fountain near the front gate, an eco-pond made of environmentalfriendly marsh and other water facilities offer refreshments to help you to cool off in the summer heat. Hyowon Park

There is another park in which you can rest in the suburbs. It is Hyowon Park in Suwon, which was constructed in 1994 with all kinds of monuments that represent filial piety, the symbol of Suwon City. It was built in such a huge space that there are a lot of spacious lawns and the whole park turns into a green world and you can see it except in winter. Sometimes couples hold their weddings in this huge area.

A number of people come and enjoy jogging in this large park running up and down hills. Hyowon Park is a good place not only for grown-ups but also for children and teenagers. A big stone statue of Shinsaimdang is in the middle of the park, and the story of Shimchung, a dutiful daughter, is carved in a mural. Therefore, this place serves as an educational function for children by making them aware of the concept of filial devotion to their parents. Also, there are basketball, badminton and Jokgu courts for many juveniles to use. The rest rooms are so comfortable and beautiful that they rank as the best in Gyunggi-do.

On the opposite side of Hyowon Park, there is Gyunggi Cultural Art Hall and Suwon Open Air Music Hall where have world famous musical artists like Jung Myunghoon, Jo Sumi and Andrea Bocelli have performed. You can enjoy frequent cultural events so this is an excellent place to escape from the summer heat while watching various performances. Na Hyesoek Street, where there are benches, cafes and restaurants, is 5 minutes distance from Hyowon Park and is also a popular rest area for Suwon citizens.

Get off at Anyang Station, Subway Line No. 1, and take bus No. 83-1, 88. Get off at Gyunggi Cultural Art Hall.

Anyang Art Park

A unique park, Anyang Art Park is located in Anyang not far from Seoul. The former name of this park was Anyang Amusement Park. Since a swimming pool was constructed in the 1950s, a variety of recreational facilities and a number of restaurants started to enter into their businesses haphazardly in the surroundings and a lot of tourists came to visit and enjoy their time there. According to the damaged natural environment and underdeveloped facilities, this park barely kept itself in existence.

Anyang City turned this park into a totally different place with Anyang Public Art Project 2005 (APAP2005). Thanks to this project, this park got a new name, Anyang Art Park, and was born again into a new place that has 52 works of art created by worldwide popular artists. There is a well-landscaped promenade along the river running through the valleys in Mt. Gwan-ak and an unusual specially-designed playground for children. Also, there is an artificial waterfall, an outdoor stage, an exhibition hall and so on that let you enjoy your time in this park with whomever you want-your date or family.

A recommended place to visit is Jeonmang-dae, an observation deck. You can see an awesome 360-degree view of Anyang City if you go up along the 146m path. This park is built at the foot of Mt. Gwan-ak, so mountain-lovers can climb the mountain and others who don t like mountains also can take a walk freely without hesitation and feel relaxed anywhere appreciating different works of art in this art park. You can take a good rest here and feel great in the fresh air and coolness from the wind blowing through a number of trees in the mountain even in the hot

summer.

Get off at Anyang Station, Subway Line No.1 and take bus No.2 in front of the main gate of Lotte Department Store. Anyang Art Park is the last stop of this bus.
