The 6th Hi-Seoul Festival, has presented different season themes- Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. The festival by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture was celebrated from May 4th to 11th, 2008 with the slogan, ‘The new history festival which makes people experience Seoul culture and tradition’. Its theme was ‘May Palace’. Various programs were held at five palaces: Kyungbok, Chankyung, Ducksu, hangduk, Kyunghee Palaces, Seoul Plaza, and Chung-gyechoen. Before the Festival began, an event was held at Kyungbok and Kyunghee Palace: the coronation of Sejong the great and a Goong & Concert outdoor event by Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Palace Concert has a long and deep history. This traditional event has been performed regularly from the 1950s until the mid-1970s. According to photo  materials taken at that time, a great number of people attended the concert.

Kyungheegung Garden was crowded with many audience, waiting for the start of he show. 5000 seats prepared for the concert filled up early, nearly twice as many as Seoul Art Center Concert Hall. Unlike usual days, Kyungheegung Palace was full of life.

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by maestro Jung Myeonghoon, played Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino Overture, Puccini’s La Bohem, and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 In F Minor Op. 36 1st & 4th Mov. Indeed, it is ncommon for the performance to be held at the palace since getting permission is difficult because of protection of cultural property. Cultural heritage is worth itself and performance in cultural heritage is worth a lot and memorable. It can be a good cultural event site. Palace Concert will draw much interest in the preservation of cultural assets to the public.

You can enjoy three more palace concerts in 2008. In addition to this classic music concert, a pop music concert and a movie music concert are expected to be held on September 25th and 26th.
