Former Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon lectured to the Soongsilians at Hyungnam Memorial Engineering Building
Room 115, on June 1st. Oh Se-hoon resigned as mayor because he took responsibility for the failure of the passage of the legislation on free meals for the students in 2011. After his resignation, for 6 months, he worked as a member of an advisory panel for, and did volunteer work in, Rwanda. Using his experience as mayor, he helped the Rwandan government establish a long-term national development plan. As a lawyer and an environmentalist, he gave the Rwandan government advice on how to improve the country’s environment•city administration and legal system. Also, with the KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) members, he did volunteer work, giving shoes to
the local children. On June 1st, Oh lectured about his experiences to the Soongsilians. The topic of the lecture was the national brand and the value of coexistence. He introduced his experience in Peru and Rwanda and explained the rank of each area and the brand of South Korea. In addition, he gave a hint of his comeback in the political realm in the near future in his words. To be specific, he said, “I am no longer just an individual. I am a public good. I can’t live the rest of my life for myself alone. For me, the most efficient way to live is to get involved in politics again.” He also emphasized that countries should coexist so they would develop. During the lecture, Oh Se-hoon even had time to talk and discuss freely with the students. One student asked him if he was going to run in the next general election. As expected, he gave a positive response to this, but he didn’t seem prepared to run for president
