2021-01-02     Kim A-yeong (ST Reporter)

The national project for economic recovery from COVID-19 is called the Korean New Deal. As the part of the Korean New Deal, Jeju province established its own New Deal policy. Let`s see the kind of changes that Jeju will pursue!.........................................................Ed.

On July 14, the government announced a comprehensive plan for the Korean version of the New Deal. Since then, Jeju had started its New Deal project, and disclosed its comprehensive plan for the Jeju-style New Deal on Oct. 12. The Jeju-style New Deal Vision aimed at creating “clean Jeju where people and nature co-exist.” It is anchored on three areas: Green New Deal, Digital New Deal, and Safety Net Enhancement, consisting of a total of 10 main tasks and 24 focusing tasks. The three areas of the Jeju-type New Deal comprehensive plan are as follows.

1.  Green New Deal

Jeju plans to make the Green New Deal a global initiative by taking advantage of its experience in implementing low-carbon policies. Major tasks include selecting the Green New Deal leading region, fostering the lava seawater and biochemical industry, eco-friendly mobility, Green Way, and attracting the attention of the UN(United Nations) General Assembly on Climate Change. Among them, biological medicine refers to natural products that are produced naturally or simply processed and used as medicines or as raw materials for medicines. Through this initiative, Jeju hopes to become a low-carbon island that fosters innovative growth engines without greenhouse gas emissions.

2. Digital New Deal

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is going to push for a digital new deal to realize Smart, Digital Island that deals with the interests of provincial residents and major pending issues in the region with AI (Artificial Intelligence) big data and smart technologies. Major tasks include establishing a disaster safety smart city, establishing a food plan for agricultural and livestock products, and establishing a 5G(5th Generation) drone hub. Building a 5G drone hub is using Jeju’s diverse natural environment in selecting special drone liberalization zones and carrying out various projects, such as drone-based logistics delivery services. This will create a safe, convenient, community with smart technology, and accelerate the digital transformation and innovation of the industry.

3. Safety Net Enhancement

Jeju will push to strengthen its safety net to overcome the COVID-19 crisis through safety practices, healing, and co-prosperity. Major tasks include the development and operation of a digital quarantine cluster, “Jeju Safety Code,” digital community care, and healing programs. Among them, Jeju Safety Code is a program that minimizes the collection of personal information based on the Blockchain DID (Decentralized Identifier), and aims to establish a smart quarantine system. It is expected that Jeju’s clean and safe area brand, which attends to mental and physical fatigue, will be further strengthened through these key tasks.

This is said to be a continuation of the detailed implementation plan, not the complete one. ST looks forward to achieving it`s goal and achieving a successful New Deal.
