The undergraduate research program is implemented by the Ministry of Education and KOFAC(Korean Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creavity), and is a research support program that provides science and engineering undergraduate students with opportunities to come up with creative ideas and research themselves, and deepen their expertise under the guidance of professors. The undergraduate research team at SSU conducted this undergraduate research program under the theme of ”Development of Parallelized Microhydrocyclones Based on 3D Printing for Continuous Separation of High Processing Capacity. ”The research team manufactured a miniaturized hydrocyclone device (a device that separates particles such as solids, gases, and liquids by centrifugal force) using a high-resolution three-dimensional printer, and succeeded in separating oil particles in water with high separation efficiency and high treatment capacity. The technology is expected to reduce wastewater treatment costs and solve environmental pollution problems by removing oil contained in industrial and household wastewater. Professor Hong Ji-woo explained that it could be applied to separate/concentrate chemical or biological particles in fluids in various fields such as pharmaceutical, medical, material synthesis, and bio, as well as oil separation.
