New Dormitory Building Coming

Kim Moon Gyum(director of the Office of Planning and Coordination) said that school is going to start building a new dormitory at the site of Social Diakonia Center this autumn by raising a private fund venture. It is designed to house about 1,400 students. This building has twelve stories above ground and two below, and is almost 29,100m2. Residence Hall, the present dormitory, is capable of housing 250 students. It is too small to compare with the total number of SSU students, 12,000. Also, it is in need of immediate renewal because it is too old. However, students are concerned that this project which will raise a private fund may increase financial charges to students. Regarding this, Director Kim said that it is unreasonable to raise tuition fees for the rest of students to decrease dorm students’ charges. It will be more efficient to build a dormitory with a company which specializes in construction than for the university to take part in it. Director Kim said students will receive more benefits as well.
