On January 6th, Park Hong-Soo of the Department of Electronic Information Engineering received the Best Student Paper prize from GlobalEM (2022 Global Electromagnetics Conference), which was hosted at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. GlobalEM is an academic conference focusing on high-powered electromagnetic waves and EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse). Park submitted a paper titled, ‘An Effective Random Coupling Model for Wave-Chaotic Cavity with Aperture Excitation’ to win the Best Student Paper prize.
Park proved that the RCM (Random Coupling Model), a model for making predictions on the values of the elements of the impedance matrices for voltages and currents at ports in electromagnetic enclosures, could be applied to systems with external current as well. Park’s research has the potential to extend the use of RCM to EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and HPEM (High Power Electromagnetics) applications.
Park commented, “RCM is theoretically difficult, and requires plenty of time on analysis and testing, so the research was hard. But I am glad as a researcher that I have gotten a meaningful result and a prize in recognition. I still have a long way to go, but I am thankful to Professor Hong Soon-Gi for always providing guidance. I hope to continuously do good research so that I may become a well-respected member of the scientific community.”
