Manjangilchi, A Central Club of SSU Won the National Debate Competition
On September 7, Professor Park Sam-yeol of Baird liberal arts University and a Soongsilian, Won Jong-hyun, who is majoring in Political Diplomacy, won the 2024 Korea Debate Competition. Since 2005, this competition has been held every year by the Central Election Broadcasting Debate Committee. The preliminary and the main rounds last for about 30 minutes, while the final rounds last for 40 minutes. This year’s theme was ‘expanding the number of proportional representative lawmakers for a month.
The central club, Manjangilchi, has been debating on various topics, from academic ones, such as the legal system and economy, to ordinary ones, such as human relationships. This enables club members to participate and debate easier as they diversify themes every time. The club has won a total of 19 times at the university student debate competitions and has had several awards in many debate contests since 2011. At this competition, Won Jong-hyun, as well as Park Jung-eun and Yeom Tae-joo, who are also in the unanimity, showed off their skills by winning the participation prize.
With strong support from the club, many clubs are making names by taking part in extracurricular activities. They help Soongsilians enjoy their university life and develop abilities. On-campus clubs are communities where students can experience meaningful work and make precious memories.
