SSU Selected for the 2025 G-LAMP Program: Strengthening Convergent Research in Mathematics, Statistics, and AI
SSU has been officially selected for the 2025 University Basic Research Laboratory Support Project, Global Learning & Academic research institution for Master’s and PhD students, and Postdocs (G-LAMP), hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The project will provide 25 billion KRW over five years to strengthen Korea’s basic science infrastructure and develop world-class research institutes, boosting SSU competitiveness in mathematics, statistics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Within the College of Natural Sciences, professors from Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, Physics, and the School of Systems Biomedical Science collaborated to establish the AI-Bio Convergence Research Institute and define its research direction. The institute aims to enhance human life and tackle health issues through AI-based convergent research, including medical and health big data analysis and cellular-level life science studies.
Professor Rhee Je-keun, director of the institute, stated, “We will allocate much of the funding to research equipment and infrastructure, recruit top researchers, and broaden student participation. Although our work has largely been at individual lab levels, this project will expand collaboration and offer students more diverse research experiences.”
SSU expects this G-LAMP selection to foster a new paradigm in mathematics, statistics, and AI, strengthening its research and positioning the university as a global science hub.
