SSU Announces AX Vision for Innovation in AI Education and Research
Held at SSU Hyungnam Memorial Engineering Building on October 17th, the AX Vision Proclamation Ceremony served as an occasion to present the university’s direction for Artificial Intelligence (AI) education and research and to officially declare its future vision. Through this event, SSU highlighted the slogan “AI NATIVE SOONGSIL,” expressing its ambitions to take off as a leading university in the field of AI.
The ceremony opened with the welcoming remarks from Board Chairman Oh Jung-hyun and President Lee Yoon-jae. Prof. Lim Jong-in, professor emeritus at Korea University and newly appointed chairman of SSU AI Committee, remarked that he “feels how closely AI has become intertwined with our lives, and will enforce AI education to all students, working to build an AI native university that develops diverse applications through the internalization of AI technologies.” He concluded his speech by placing emphasis on “AX,” short for “AI Transformation.”
In the following vision proclamation, four primary visions were declared: AX-centered education innovation, AI-based research and technological development, realization of Christian values, and training global leaders. In the second session of the event, Prof. Jun Kwang-sung, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arizona, and Lee Yeon-soo, CEO of NC AI, each delivered a ten-minute speech. A panel discussion on the topic “AI FOR SECURITY, SECURITY FOR AI” followed.
From this event, SSU aims to strengthen students’ AI competencies and push forward an AI-centered education. The university plans to establish four new concentrations within the Department of AI Software, and expand its collaborative network by signing memoranda of understanding with various institutions.
