SSU Korean Language Education Institute: A Global Hub for Exchange through Language and Culture
The institute’s activities are broadly divided into regular courses and cultural programs. For regular courses, students must complete over 200 hours of Korean language instruction per semester, typically for groups of about 15 students. Instruction covers speaking, listening, writing, and reading, with learning objectives divided into six levels based on student proficiency. However, the regular program is divided into two classes: Levels 1-2 and Levels 3-6. Application periods occur four times a year, corresponding to the four semesters, allowing students to apply for their desired semester regardless of the regular semester start date, accommodating individual schedules. Meanwhile, cultural activities are held each semester, featuring one overall cultural experience and one level-specific cultural experience, providing opportunities for language trainees to deepen their interactions. Furthermore, the university offers a “Korean Mentor Matching Program,” pairing language trainees with Korean Soongsilians on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis to study together and participate in various experiential activities. Through this program, SSU language trainees learn Korean and experience Korean culture alongside Korean students for 3 hours per week, totaling 9 sessions per semester.
The Korean Language Education Institute also hosts graduation certification events for trainees via its Instagram, offering glimpses into trainees’ lives and growth. SSU Korean Language Education Institute positions itself as a global exchange platform that goes beyond mere language learning, supporting students in naturally integrating into Korean life.
