Shape Your Future: Academic Major Fair
The School of Liberal Studies was established in 2025. It was established to provide opportunities to encounter and explore various disciplines for those who did not clearly decide on a career path or who have continued learning centered on exams for college entrance. The School of Liberal Studies at SSU held an academic major fair to help students choose their major.
The major fair ran for six weeks from March 11 to April 15, and each week it was held by different colleges. Students were to select a major they were interested in via Google Form in advance. And on the day of the fair, students met with professors, seniors, and current employees in their chosen major. Professors introduced a major with a focus on conveying the essence of the major. Beyond the image or prejudice of the major that students commonly have, they explained what is actually taught and what are the major’s core values. Through this, students had clearer views of the realistic aspects of that major. And current employees shared their experiences, such as their portfolio, working environment, and job satisfaction. These contents were what students would experience in the near future if they choose that major. Therefore, it provided a more practical standard for selecting a major. After the overall major introduction was over, students freely asked questions. During the Q&A session, there were practical concerns such as job prospects, the rate of graduate school admission, difficulties when the department was not suitable for aptitude, and honest answers to these questions. In addition, information that was not easily accessible, such as clubs organized by each major, characteristic programs, and recommended lectures, was also provided from seniors. This helped students plan in advance what activities they would do and what classes they would take when entering that major.
