Review of Miss Granny
Wrinkled face, heavy shoulders, and a smelly body. This movie describes an old woman like this. Imagine that you are a grandmother or grandfather who have grandchildren. What
would you want to do most if you went back to your past life? The film, Miss Granny, is a story about a grandmother, Oh Malsoon (by actress Na Moon-hee) who has been changed to a 20-
year-old maiden named Oh Doo-ri (by actress Shim Eun-kyung). What part of the movie makes the audience laugh and cry? Let's go over the points we should focus on as we watch the Miss Granny.
Point 1: Love
Oh Mal-soon is the character who represents our mothers. She raised a son to become a professor at a national school university since her husband died when she was pregnant. She
has given all her hearts to her son, from her food to her dream. After she became young, she got the chance to enjoy riches and honors as a singer. She was very happy. However, she
gave up all her honor when her grandson got in an emergency situation. She said, “I will live the same life, even in another lifetime. Though it is hard life, I will live as your mom.”
Point 2: Acting ability of actors
Miss Granny attracted the public’s attention with the casting of Na Moon-hee and shim Eun-kyung. Na Moon-hee, her acting as an old woman left nothing to be desired. Also, Shim Eunkyung did quite wonderfully in her role. She managed to play the exceptionally difficult part like using a dialect with surprising depth and great emotion, despite the fact that she is only 20 years old. The audience is captured with their fine acting for the entire 124 minutes. In addition, this film is filled with vivid supporting roles including Seong Dong-il, Park In-hwan and Kim Hyeonsuk. They are wonderfully supporting actors who are worthy to take leading roles, but humbly they took supporting roles.
Point 3: Touching Music
Oh Mal-soon’s name was so famous that everyone knew about it. When she was a young woman, she sang very well and she was very beautiful. So she wanted to sing a song as a singer when she was changed into young Oh Doo-ri. Shim has a beautiful voice and performed four original songs without dubbing. The songs include “If you go to Naseong,” “A White butterfly,” and “Rain water.” Though these songs are from the 1970’s and the 1980’s, the audiences in their twenties are still able to enjoy them as well. I recommend the songs. You can feel something special and find happiness. Mothers make great sacrifices for their children during their lifetime and they may even use the last chance of their lives for their children. This amazing motherly-love touches the
audiences’ hearts. Miss Granny is a movie that can be enjoyed by everyone.
