SSCAP + is the acronym for Soongsil University Career Assistance Program organized by the SSU Career Development Center. It provides the students with information on landing a job as preparation for employment. It also helps the students in setting reasonable job goals through job search, decision making, self-introduction preparation, and interview exercise. The 2017 Winter SSCAP + was divided into two separate classes, and each class accepted 30 students on the first-come-first-served basis. The first class started from January 9th to 12th, and the next class started from January 16th to 20th. The students learned the preparation process for their jobs through four days of full-time programs.
On the first day, the students had time to explore their thoughts through various activities in order to determine the direction of their future career. First, they considered their own strengths and weaknesses, wrote down how their dreams have been changed so far, and made a list of their experiences by drawing a life curve. They also identified their interests, characteristics, and strengths through their pre- tested occupational preference test results. On the second day, the students made a brief career decision by using the self- searching information, which was conducted on the previous day. They learned how to search for the companies that they think would be perfect for them. In this case, corporate- exploration could be implemented via job-related portal sites or the official websites of the companies. Furthermore, students were provided with lessons about the basic information of jobs and business manners, and they received advice on how to prepare for work. On the third day, students studied how to write job application documents based on the company information that they explored in the previous class. The required documents for job application included a resume and a self-introduction letter. The focus of the lesson on the third day was on how to fill out and review the document by themselves. After learning the theory, the students actually had time to prepare the self-introduction letter. On the last day, the students learned about image making and the theories on effective interview skills. Similar to the third day lesson, they had a mock interview after studying the theory. At that time, the students provided feedback to one another on the condition that they assumed that the mock interview was real.
After completing the four-day course, the professor and the students spent time on discussing their feelings regarding the whole program. The students who finished the entire program were also granted certificates to prove that they have completed the career assistant program.
