Are you familiar with the changes of SSU that are taking place in 2019? ST introduces the big changes of SSU that you must know. ......................................................................................... Ed
An eventful 2018 has passed and 2019 has come. Many students start their undergraduate education in 2019. This alone is a big change, but there will be many changes in and out of schools by 2019. Let us know more about these changes that are closely related with our college life.
General Selection Classification and Abolition of the Classification
As a result of the revision of the school rules, the classification of general selection was abolished this year. In this semester, the scope of selection between major courses and liberal subjects expands by simplifying the classification of credits. The existing general selection subjects, such as 7+1, domestic and international services, internship, academic exchange, other major courses will be acknowledged as liberal subjects. The general selection subjects that have been completed by the Soongsilians upon registration (entrance before 2018) will be changed to a selective general course. In credit recognition of Korea Massive Open Online Course (K-MOOC), it is recognized that the subject in the area has been completed according to the division to which the subject belongs.
Chapel Will be Given Credit
Giving credit in chapel, which many Soongsilians have wanted, begins from the spring semester of 2019 in a way that gives credit upon filling of the course request. It is applied in a retroactive manner to all Soongsilians. When they complete a semester’s chapel, they can be given 0.5 credit. Based on this alteration, required general course credit changes from 14 to 17. The credits that have been completed until 2018 will be reflected in the graduation schedule after March 1st.
Reorganization of Academic Assistant A
From the spring semester of 2019, a reorganization plan of academic assistant A is implemented. In the past, assistants were not able to perform their original duties, such as supporting students and research, because they were in charge of administrative duties, such as drafts of official documents with complex structures. Following the plan, academic assistant A will be moved to each college’s Team of Teaching and Learning Development Support.
The Establishment of Soongduk Hall
Soongduk Hall, which had been built as part of the 120th anniversary project, will finally be completed. Replacing the aging Economics and Business Building, it has classrooms, professors’ offices, PC practice rooms, and administration rooms. It will be used as a student space for the College of Business Administration and College of Economics and International Soongsilians. In the vicinity of Soongduk Hall and the current site of the Economics and Business Building, a ramp and square connecting the main gate to the Student Union will be built.
“I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is that they must change if they want to improve.” Like Georg C. Lichtenberg’s words, no one knows if this change will improve SSU. However, it is a matter of course that Soongsilians need the change to take a step forward.
