SSU was selected for the “2020 Leading University Project for Reunification Education” organized by the Ministry of Unification. It is the only consecutive selection case since the implementation of this project in 2016.
The project is designed to develop, disseminate, and spread excellent models of university reunification education, thereby invigorating the discussion of reunification in the universities and raising the awareness of reunification among university students. Thanks to the project’s selection, SSU will receive a support amounting to 1.8 billion won a year from the Unification Ministry for two years.
SSU has played a leading role in reunification education since the MOU (memorandum of understanding) was signed with the Unification Ministry. It opened the “Peace and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula” for all freshmen students in 2014 and conducted a three-day “Soongsil Peace and Reunification School”. It is the first case of selecting reunification education as a required subject in Korean universities. In addition, all types of reunification education have been integrated and operated by the “SSU’s Comprehensive Reunification Education Leading University Model.” Through the spread of this model, SSU will further establish itself as a hub university that leads the reunification education.
Hwang Joon-Sung, the president of Soongsil University, said, “I’m happy and grateful that SSU has been selected as a leading university for the reunification education. SSU will continue to lead the spirit of reunification and perform its mission to nurture talented people.”
