The ‘Safety Handcart’ proposed by Kim Min-seok, a third-year School of Mechanical Engineering student, in an ‘Engaged Learning’ class has been distributed to recycling collectors in Mapo-gu. In July last year, Kim Min-seok proposed to the Mapo-gu Office to produce and support handcarts so that elderly people who collect recyclables can collect them safely, and came up with handcarts himself based on what he learned in the Computer Machine System class.
Kim Min-seok’s warm interest led to policy. Engaged learning classes are not only about storing knowledge learned in major classes in mind, but are also a class model at SSU that takes the initiative in solving many problems that students encounter outside the classroom, and learn from them as a result of class activities. Students who took the course had demonstrate different achievements, such as solving social problems with the knowledge of their major.
By applying the knowledge learned in class to solve different social problems with the Engaged Learning class, students can gain an opportunity to recognize the usefulness and value of the knowledge that they have learned and to explore future careers.
