The U-league that many university soccer players have passion and ambition for is a soccer championship games whose aim it was to promote soccer boom among universities. Until 2021, there were area leagues from March to November, and there was a Grand Final tournament with the top teams of the area leagues participating. However, since 2022, there are many opinions about performanceenhancing problems and motivation because of the gap between the strong and weak teams. To solve these problems, a new championship system was introduced to divide the entire participating teams into the first and second divisions that will play in area leagues and determine the promotion teams based on performance in the past three years.
The SSU soccer team belongs to the 1 area called group of death because many strong teams, including Korea University and Yonsei University, are in contention. According to the results of SSU’s match in March, it was a 0-0 draw against Korea University on Friday, March 18. On March 25, the SSU soccer team scored a goal in the second half of the match against Sungkyunkwan University but lost 2:1. In April, the SSU soccer team won 2:1 against Hongik University on Friday, April 1. On April 8, the SSU soccer team scored three goals against Suwon University, resulting in a 3:0 victory.
There is an area league until November. On account of the new match system, there are expectations on whether or not an emerging strong team will appear. According to the results of SSU’s match, the SSU soccer team produced many wins despite the strong rivals in the group of death.
