SSUGAR, an a cappella club at SSU, won the silver prize at the 12th Gangneung World Choir Games, the largest choir festival and competition, held from July 3 to July 13. This year, 324 teams from 34 countries participated. The award consists of gold, silver, and bronze.
A preliminary round was held on February 24. SSUGAR met weekly to prepare for the World Choir Competition. Just before the competition, they met at least three times a week and practiced for 10 hours a day. In addition, they also visited the practice room of the professional a cappella team ‘Doo- Wop Sounds’ and received feedback. The main competition was held at the small concert hall of Gangneung Art & Culture Hall. After much effort, SSUGAR won the silver prize in the Open Competition Pop Ensemble category.
The World Choir Competition delivers a message of peace and prosperity to people worldwide who have suffered from COVID-19, like a chorus in which various voices and chords are gathered and harmonized. And by winning the silver prize in the competition, they informed SSU and the a cappella club SSUGAR.
