The 136th Student Military Education Unit of SSU held the summer enlistment training commencement ceremony on June 29th. The Student Military Education Unit, also known as the ROTC (Reserve Officer’s Training Corps), is a system in which university students undergo basic training during their second year in winter and then receive military training during the vacation periods of their third and fourth years. After graduation, they are commissioned as a second lieutenant.
On the summer enlistment training commencement ceremony, 62nd student officers (4th year), 63rd student officers (3rd year), and 58 candidates participated. The guests encouraged the candidates with warm words and handshakes during the ceremony.
To qualify for ROTC, candidates must be in the first or second year of a four-year university. The selection process involves a written test, a physical fitness assessment, and an interview. After completing the candidate officer period, they will apply to the army and, based on their preferences, will be assigned to a specific unit. Being an ROTC has its advantages, as they receive an annual salary of approximately 24 million won upon commissioning and can commute with their families or friends during their military service.
