The 65th Student Government, S:SURE announced a revision of the chapel system. This reform was introduced to create a more reasonable academic environment in response to concerns that the existing chapel system placed an excessive burden on students. Student opinions were collected through a survey, and 77.5% of respondents supported the implementation of the proposed changes.
Based on the survey results, the Vision Chapel will be reduced from 12 weeks per semester to 8 weeks. The attendance requirement will remain at 80% or higher to receive a PASS grade. In other words, students must attend at least seven out of eight sessions to pass. The Small Group Chapel will also be reduced from 8 weeks per semester to 7 weeks, and students must attend at least 6 out of 7 sessions to receive a PASS grade. In addition, the online lecture in the final week will be abolished.
The tardiness policy will also be eased. Previously, students who entered the classroom more than five minutes after the start of class were marked as absent. Under the revised policy, the first and second instances of tardiness will be counted if the student arrives within ten minutes after the start of class. From the third instance onward, tardiness will be counted only if the student arrives within five minutes after the start of class. Students who arrive between five and ten minutes late must receive confirmation of tardiness before being allowed to enter the classroom.
The revised chapel system will be implemented starting in the first semester of the 2026 academic year. The Student Government stated, “We hope this reform will help students design their university life more independently.” and added, “We thank all students who participated in the survey.”
